Bloomcast (coming soon)
Bloomcast is Planetixx's advanced remote sensing system purpose-built to monitor and forecast harmful algal blooms (HABs) in freshwater lakes and their catchments.
Integrated Data Approach
The Bloomcast models integrate optical and radar satellite data, UAV imagery, in-situ measurements, and open-access geospatial datasets to deliver high-frequency, spatially detailed insights on bloom dynamics.
Combining satellite imagery, AI, and environmental data, Bloomcast tracks current bloom activity and delivers a 12-month rolling forecast of bloom risk across the water body.
It also identifies high-risk areas for nutrient runoff, pinpoints zones most vulnerable to algal blooms, and provides early warning forecasts, enabling authorities and stakeholders to take timely, targeted action to protect water quality and ecosystem health.
Validated Performance
The Bloomcast system was validated using real-world data from Lough Neagh, where it achieved predictive accuracy within ±30% for chlorophyll concentrations across 455 lake zones, demonstrating robust performance in local conditions and making it scalable and cost-effective for deployment in remote or under-resourced regions.
Bloomcast will soon be available on the Planetixx Observatory.
